Privacy Policy & Terms
How Out the Farm Gate handles your personal information, and the terms that apply when you use this website and reserve meat through us. Please read both. If anything is unclear, call Stephen on 021 943 862 or email outthefarmgate@gmail.com.
Privacy Policy
Who we are
Out the Farm Gate (outthefarmgate.co.nz) is operated by Out the Farm Gate Limited, based in Kaukapakapa, New Zealand. We are the operator of this website and the coordinator of the meat reservations arranged through it. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Out the Farm Gate Limited.
We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 2020.
What we collect
We collect information you give us directly when you fill in a form, reserve meat, submit a cut sheet, pay for an order, or contact us. This can include your name, email address, phone number, delivery region, suburb and town, and the details of your order (the farm, the meat type, the share size, your chosen butcher, and your cut preferences). If you tell us how many adults and children are in your household to help size an order, we collect that too.
When you pay for an order, your payment is processed securely through our third party payment provider. We receive confirmation of your payment and a record of the transaction, but we do not store your full card details on our own systems.
We also collect some information automatically when you visit the site, such as your device type, browser, and how you move through the pages.
How we use it
We use your information to reserve your meat and coordinate your order between you, the farmer, and the butcher; to take payment and manage refunds where they apply; to keep you updated on your order, including harvest dates and collection; to answer your enquiries; and, where you have agreed to it, to send you news and updates about farmers and availability near you. You can unsubscribe from those updates at any time using the link in the email or by contacting us.
Who we share it with
To arrange your order, we share the details a farmer or butcher needs to fulfil it. A farmer receives the information needed to plan the harvest and, where relevant, a customer list for their harvest batch. A butcher receives your cut sheet and contact details so they can process your meat and arrange collection. Buyers do not contact farmers directly; Out the Farm Gate coordinates communication between everyone involved.
We also use trusted third party service providers to run the website and our operations:
- Our website is hosted on WordPress.com.
- We manage customer and order records in EspoCRM, hosted on cloud servers located in the European Union.
- We send email through Brevo, and use Gmail for correspondence.
- We process payments through a secure third party payment provider.
- We use Google Analytics 4 and the Meta Pixel, delivered through Google Tag Manager, to understand how the site is used.
Because our customer records are hosted in the European Union, your information may be stored on servers outside New Zealand. We take reasonable steps to ensure any provider holding your information protects it to a standard comparable to the Privacy Act 2020.
We will not sell your personal information. We will only disclose it where you have asked us to, where it is needed to complete your order, where a service provider processes it on our behalf, or where the law requires it.
Cookies and tracking
This site uses cookies and similar technologies to make the site work, to remember your choices, and to measure how the site is used. Some of these are set by third parties such as Google and Meta. You can control or clear cookies through your browser settings. Turning some cookies off may affect how parts of the site work.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as we need it to run your order and our business, and to meet our legal and tax obligations. Order and customer records are kept for at least seven years to meet Inland Revenue requirements. Marketing contacts are kept until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct it if it is wrong, and to withdraw your consent to marketing at any time. To make a request, email outthefarmgate@gmail.com or call 021 943 862. If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).
Keeping it safe
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your information safe.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The version on this page is the current one, and the “last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed.

About these terms
These terms apply when you use outthefarmgate.co.nz and when you reserve meat through us. By using the site or reserving meat, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
What Out the Farm Gate does
Out the Farm Gate connects you with New Zealand farmers who sell meat direct, and coordinates and manages your order from reservation through to collection. We presell the animal, handle the cut sheet, arrange processing with the butcher, and take payment for the meat. When you reserve meat through us, your agreement for the meat is with Out the Farm Gate Limited. Buyers do not deal directly with farmers; we coordinate all communication.
How ordering works
When you reserve meat and submit a cut sheet, you are asking us to arrange an order with a specific farmer and butcher. Your reservation is confirmed once a harvest date is set. We will keep you updated through the process, from reservation to collection.
Pricing
The price of your meat is the carcass weight multiplied by the farmer’s price per kilogram, and is inclusive of GST. Prices shown on the site before harvest are estimates. The final price depends on the actual carcass weight after harvest, which we confirm once the animal is weighed. Any yield figures shown are for illustration only and are not a guarantee of the amount of packaged meat you will receive. Butchery and processing is charged in addition to the carcass price.
Payments
You pay Out the Farm Gate for your meat. A deposit is required once a harvest date is confirmed: $500 for beef, Wagyu, or buffalo (a flat amount regardless of share size), or $100 for lamb or mutton, both inclusive of GST. The balance of the carcass price is confirmed once the animal is weighed, and is payable before you collect your meat.
The butcher’s processing fee is separate. You pay the butcher directly when you collect your meat. Out the Farm Gate does not take the butcher payment.
Deposits and refunds
Your deposit secures your place for a confirmed harvest. If you cancel after paying your deposit, we retain a cancellation fee of 10% of your deposit and refund the remaining 90%. Once the animal has been harvested for your order, no refund is available, because the animal has been processed specifically for you. If a farmer or butcher is unable to fulfil your order, we will arrange an alternative with you or refund you in full.
Collection
Meat is collected from the butcher. We do not deliver. The butcher will arrange collection with you once your meat is ready, and you pay the butcher’s processing fee directly to the butcher at collection. Out the Farm Gate does not handle cut meat.
Cut sheets and timing
Please submit your cut preferences before the harvest date. Cut preferences submitted after the harvest date may not be able to be actioned, and in that case a standard cut may be applied.
Your obligations
You agree to give us accurate information, to pay for your meat and to pay the butcher as set out above, and to collect your meat within the timeframe the butcher gives you.
Food safety and quality
The farmer raises the animal and the butcher processes and packages your meat. Handling, storing, and cooking meat safely once you collect it is your responsibility. Nothing in these terms affects your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where they apply.
Our liability
We take care in coordinating and managing your order. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss that we could not reasonably have foreseen. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot legally be excluded, including under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986 where they apply. Because you contract and pay through Out the Farm Gate for your meat, those consumer law protections apply to your order.
The website
We work to keep the site accurate and available, but we do not guarantee it will always be error free or uninterrupted. Content on this site is owned by Out the Farm Gate or used with permission, and may not be copied without our consent.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page is the current one, and the “last updated” date shows when it last changed.
Governing law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
