About Out the Farm Gate

Our why

A farmer, supporting other farmers, and connecting you with where your meat comes from. A way to back your local farmer.

Meet Stephen

It began with the farmers

It started with a conversation about the farmers we know, and how we could support them and get their meat direct to the people who’d value it most.

As farmers, we work hard to care for our animals. And yet customers know very little about where their meat comes from, past the meat works. The goal was to change that: to give farmers a way to sell direct, on their own terms, and to support them by sharing their story so it travels with their meat.

But the most exciting part is giving people meat of a quality that’s hard to come by, and the flavour that comes with it.

For the first time, the rules now allow it. This is what Out the Farm Gate is built to do.

· What we do ·

Out the Farm Gate takes pride in helping you get to know your farmer and the farm your meat comes from, whether you pick the farm yourself or we match you to one. We work alongside small and medium farms who put real care into how their animals are raised.

Taste the difference

A calm life makes better meat

Here’s what I’ve come to learn as a farmer: flavour is the outcome of a good life, and tenderness and quality are the results of a calm, stress-free cow. A cow that is grazed well, handled calmly, and cared for right through to harvest is the one that eats best. Look after the animal, and the quality looks after itself.

That’s the difference in your freezer. Not just meat you can trace, but meat that tastes the way it should. Better life, stronger flavour.

What is regenerative farming?

Not every farm here farms the same way. You’ll find organic, regenerative and conventional farmers. I’m a regenerative farmer, and these are the practices we get behind.
Soil Health
Soil Health
Diverse pastures and managed grazing build living soils rich in biology, the foundation of everything.
Animal Wellbeing
Animal Wellbeing
Animals raised in conditions that match their nature: space, pasture, and low-stress handling from paddock to plate.
Farm Resilience
Farm Resilience
Farming systems that sequester carbon, protect waterways, and leave the land better than they found it.

Better farming, better food, and a bit of good in it for everyone.
