Five generations on a wild coastline โ led by women
When John Glendining ventured to the sheer-cliffed isolation of the Waihua coastline in 1882, he began a legacy that has spanned generations. When he died suddenly, his wife Laura-Sarah stayed on to run the farm โ beginning a proud heritage of women taking a leading hand in the operation of Waihua Station.
Through floods that destroyed the original homestead, the 1931 earthquake that reshaped the landscape, the loss of Rupert in World War Two, and decades of farming partnership and family change โ the station has endured. Today, Rose Haynes runs the farm with her two daughters, continuing that tradition.

02 โ Sunday at the Farm Shop
Barista coffee, homemade pizzas, and the wild Hawke’s Bay coast
The Farm Shop opens every Sunday โ and it’s worth the drive. Pull up at the end of a private coastal road, take in the view, and settle in for great coffee and freshly made Farm Shop pizzas. Come for the atmosphere, stay for the wild sea air and the friendly welcome from Rose and her team.

Only 20 minutes from Wairoa at the end of a private road, the cottage is nestled into the tranquil Waihua Station homestead grounds. Walk to the beach, fish in the river, kayak the coast, or simply sit back and watch the rugged Hawke’s Bay coastline do its thing.

Plant a tree during your stay
Waihua Station has planted over 5,000 native species to neutralise on-farm carbon emissions and restore the coastal landscape. Guests are invited to plant their own tree โ tagged with your name, free of charge. Come back in years to come and check on it.
