Buying a ยผ, ยฝ, or whole beast, or a whole sheep direct from the farmer is a bit different from shopping online and clicking โadd to cartโ.
This page explains how the process works, from placing an order through to processing, pricing, and delivery, so you know exactly what to expect.
If youโre new to buying meat this way, donโt worry โ itโs straightforward once you understand the steps, and youโll be dealing directly with the farmer throughout the process.
1 – Contact the Farmer
- Start by filling out the contact form on the farmerโs page to let them know you are ready to order meat direct from the farm. Be sure to specify whether you want lamb, mutton, or a quarter, half, or whole beef. Enter your delivery address so the farmer can arrange processing at the closest approved meat processor to you.

2 – Fill Out the Cut Sheet
- Once your order is confirmed, the farmer will send you the appropriate cut sheet for your order. This form lets you choose how your beef or lamb will be cut and packaged. If you are unsure about any selections, the farmer can help guide you through it.
- You will be able to select different cuts of meat based on your preferences. Please note that quarter beef cut sheets are more limited compared to half or whole beef, which offer greater flexibility and more cut options.
3 – Secure Your Harvest Date
- After completing your cut sheet, the farmer will schedule a date to harvest your animal. Most farmers need a minimum number of animals pre-sold before they can book the mobile abattoir, such as four cows or twenty sheep, or a combination of both.
- Once the processing truck is booked, the farmer will contact you to confirm the harvest date. To secure your order and hold your spot, you will pay the deposit directly to the farmer.

4 – Delivery to the Meat Processor
- After the animal is harvested, the farmer will deliver it to the meat processor. You will receive a final invoice for the animal, which should be paid before processing.
- The animal will be hung for approximately ten days to allow the meat to set properly, enhancing flavour and tenderness. After hanging, the processor will cut the meat according to your selections on the cut sheet.
- When your meat is ready, the processor will contact you. You then pay the processing fee directly to the butcher and arrange to collect your order.
