David and Jennifer Rodrigue opened Origin Northland in 2023 after outgrowing a monthly roving rural market — their vision was a permanent home for the best of Northland’s local producers.
The Rodrigues run Belle Chevre Creamery, their own goat milk farm, and know first-hand what it takes to get quality local product in front of customers. When pandemic restrictions and weather disrupted outdoor markets in the Waipu area, they decided to build something more permanent. Origin Northland opened on 17 August 2023 at 51 The Centre, Waipu.
What started as a boutique grocer has grown into Waipu’s go-to food hub — organic meats, spray-free vegetables, local eggs, NZ cheeses, charcuterie, organic sourdough (including gluten-free), and a wide range of dairy options. In late 2024 they added a ready-to-eat offer: locally roasted coffee, gourmet cheese toasties, fresh salads and sweet treats. Producers delivering their bounty are as common as courier deliveries — and customers chatting with growers is part of the experience.

Organic sourdough (including GF), Matakana Smokehouse salmon, kombucha on tap, local olive oil from a steel fusti, freshly ground coffee beans and Bostock’s organic chicken.
